Michigan Football: 2022 recruit projected to Wolverines
2022 offensive line recruit Sullivan Weidman visited Michigan football this weekend which could mean a commitment is on the way.
Some interesting news came about for Michigan football on the recruiting front Saturday as a three-star offensive lineman in the 2022 class took a self-guided visit to Ann Arbor.
The prospect in question is offensive lineman Sullivan Weidman who is out of Brookline, Massachusetts. Weidman certainly has the size Michigan football and others are after, as the offensive tackle is 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds.
He ranks as the No. 437 player in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as the No. 41 offensive tackle. He ranks slightly lower in the 247 specific rankings.
The Wolverines offered him earlier this spring and it’s no secret that Michigan has done really well in the Massachusetts area in large part because of defensive coordinator Don Brown and his vast connections in the state.
Self-guided visit to Michigan
Weidman took a visit Saturday to Ann Arbor according to 247 sports ($), but that’s not the only school. He did the same thing with Boston College ($) in the past week, which isn’t a huge surprise.
The Eagles seem to be the other serious contender in this recruitment. West Virginia, Rutgers and Arizona State are some other schools that have recently offered.
As far as what it means, it can be hard to tell, but if other recent self-guided visits are an indication, then Michigan football could have a good shot at a commitment.
In fact, Rivals reporter EJ Holland believes that Michigan will get one from Weidman, if they want one and he reported that he put in a Futurecast pick ($) for the three-star tackle for U-M Saturday. But he said there could be some question about whether Weidman is a take:
"“Weidman was an early offer for the Wolverines, and he has been extremely high on U-M for several months. I strongly believe U-M can land him if it wants to. With all of this said, I believe Weidman is a guy that they would like to further evaluate before accepting a commitment.”"
This is backed up by the fact that Weidman is way down the board of top targets according to 247 sports. He’s in the section called scout look. There are other highly-ranked recruits there, it just reinforces what Holland said that U-M will need to decide about taking him.
However, Holland also reported that there has been contact throughout the dead period and recruits don’t tend to visit places that have no intention of taking them.
Andrel Anthony, Tristan Bounds and most recently, Marlin Klein all committed after taking self-guided visits, which is why it’s worth talking about.
