Michigan Football: 5 Realistic predictions for Joe Milton in 2020
What happens in his first start
One of the things that really interests me heading into that first game against Minnesota is three weeks is just how the coaching staff will approach Milton.
Will the Wolverines come out throwing on first down and will Milton throw 30-40 passes that first outing? Certainly, much of that is determined by how the game goes but I am wondering how aggressive Josh Gattis and Jim Harbaugh will be in Milton’s first start.
Minnesota is down a number of starters on their defense from last season, including some key parts in the secondary. At the same time though, Michigan has to feel strong about its running game. The running back group legitimately goes four deep and the offensive line is going to be better than people think.
That could lead to a run-heavy attack in the opener against Minnesota, but either way, that will lead to some play-action opportunities. And truth be told, Milton should be comfortable in the offense and with the receivers, so he shouldn’t be limited too much.
That being said, I’m guessing he will throw for around 200 yards and a touchdown. I also think he will throw an interception. It’s not going to be perfect, but it will be enough to get a win.
