Michigan Football: Wolverines the favorite for 4-star George Rooks?
Michigan football has been viewed as the “favorite” with George Rooks but as a decision nears, we really don’t know much.
One way or another, the recruitment of George Rooks should come to an end soon for Michigan football, as one of the Wolverines top targets left in 2021 is poised to make a decision.
Rooks, who is a four-star defensive lineman with the capability of playing defensive tackle and defensive end, is one of the priority targets left for Michigan along with Donovan Edwards and Rayshaun Benny.
But of all the recruiting battles Michigan has been part of this cycle, this has been among the hardest to read. The Wolverines picked up some crystal ball projections for Rooks back in May, but there was only two and none came from the Michigan recruiting experts at 247.
Over at Rivals, there are five expert picks of Rooks to Michigan football. Most of them came in May and lead expert EJ Holland is among those, as is Clayton Safie who just put in a FutureCast pick for Rooks on Friday. Mike Farrell is another noted analsyt with a U-M pick for Rooks.
Could Rooks commit to Michigan next week?
Michigan fans put a lot of stock in Holland but to be fair, his predictions on Rocco Spindler, Drew Kendall and Daymon David were wrong, so he could be wrong on Rooks too.
It’s not an exact science and Rooks doesn’t do much in the way of interviews, although he did talk to Brian Dohn of 247 sports this week ($) and confirmed a decision was coming in the next week.

Penn State, Michigan, Pittsburgh and Boston College were all listed as finalists and even during the dead period, Rooks took self-guided visits to Penn State and Michigan.
At 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, he could be an ideal hybrid along the defensive line. You could easily see him as a three technique or a five technique depending how he fills out.
It’s hard to gain much of anything from Rooks quotes in the article, other than he wants to get the decision over before his high school season begins Oct. 2.
We’ll see if there’s a flood of crystal ball picks at some point this week. Michigan football is viewed as the favorite, mostly because of all the expert picks, which mostly came in May, so I’m not sure anyone really knows what Rooks is going to do.
I think it’s pretty obvious the New Jersey product goes to Michigan or Penn State. The Wolverines have been the constant of the top four teams and Shaun Nua has a good relationship.
It makes sense for experts to project Rooks to the Wolverines, but this really feels like a 50/50 battle. I think Michigan has a slight edge and hopefully, that proves to be true cause the Wolverines desperately need Rooks in the 2021 class.
