Michigan Football: Predicting Wolverines 2020 starters on defense
LB’s: Cam McGrone, Josh Ross, Michael Barrett; Backups: Anthony Solomon, Ben VanSumeren, Kalel Mullings, Nikhai Hill-Green
Cameron McGrone became a starter a few games into the season and was a revelation for the Wolverines with 65 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. The redshirt sophomore has made such an impression, one NFL mock draft has him going in the first round in 2021.
On top of McGrone, who look a lot like Devin Bush Jr. a year ago, the Wolverines will also get Josh Ross back after he missed most of last season due to injury.
In 2018, Ross finished with 55 tackles, a sack and 5.5 tackles for a loss. That combination is going to be scary for opposing offenses and at viper, Michael Barrett, a former high school quarterback and running back for U-M, is in line to start.
He’s a big-time athlete and also has good size at 6-foot, 225 pounds. Anthony Solomon, who saw time mostly on a special teams as a freshman, should also get some opportunities. Ben VanSumeren and also freshmen Kalel Mullings and Nikhai Hill-Green have stood out too.
