Michigan Football: Recently offered O-lineman high on Wolverines
A new target has emerged for Michigan football on the offensive line in the 2021 recruiting class. More on that plus the latest crystal ball projection.
Michigan football recently expanded its recruiting board in the 2021 class with an offer to offensive lineman Remington Strickland, a three-star recruit out of Texas.
The offer went out over the weekend to the prospect from Sugar Land, Texas, who is ranked No. 766 in the 247 composite rankings for 2021.
His 247 sports profile lists him as an offensive guard, but the 6-foot-4 O-lineman told 247 sports that Michigan football was recruiting him as an offensive tackle.
"“Coach Warinner is recruiting me as a tackle as of now,” Strickland said to the Michigan Insider ($). “Many other schools projected me as an inside guy but I believe I have the athleticism and versatility to play any position on the offensive line.”"
Looking at his film, it looks like Strickland has a chance to be a right tackle at the college level. He has decent feet and athleticism and he’s nasty in the run game.
But with two just interior guys committed during this cycle since Rocco Spindler and Drew Kendall both spurned the Wolverines, his versatility also has to be attractive to the Michigan staff.
Prior to his offer from Michigan, Houston and SMU were the two schools listed as warm on his 247 profile. He also has an offer from Arkansas as well as Purdue. In terms of power-5 offers though, none of the other programs are on the same level as the Wolverines and it shows.
"“I have a lot of interest in Michigan for sure,” Strickland said ($). “They compete at the highest level in the country and put out tons of NFL talent every season. Michigan is definitely very high on my list right now.”"
Strickland said he was hoping to be committed by December. The Wolverines have 20 commitments right now in the 2021 class and are looking for 25-26 total.
Another 2022 crystal ball for Wolverines
Earlier this week, Michigan football picked up a commitment from three-star tight end Marlin Klein and Wednesday, U-M picked up a crystal ball for another 2022 tight end, Oscar Delp.
Delp is a three-star recruit according to the 247 composite rankings and is currently unranked. However, major offers have been coming in quickly following an offer by the Wolverines Sept. 3.
Georgia, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Minnesota and Duke have all offered in the past few weeks, but Michigan being the first matters to Delp according to Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider:
"“All these schools were looking at me, and (the Michigan coaches) were the first ones to take a chance. None of this would be happening right now if it wasn’t for them giving that first offer. So, definitely is gonna be a big factor.”"
That statement should make Michigan football fans feel good about this recruitment and after checking with sources, Webb placed a crystal ball with a confidence of six Wednesday.
Delp would be the second tight end commitment in the 2022 class if he were to pledge to the Wolverines. But some other top targets such as Donovan Green could still be pursued as a wide receiver.
