Michigan Football: 5 Bold predictions for Wolverines in 2020
Joe Milton will be an upgrade
It’s hard to quantify what’s expected of Milton because so many fans have already started anointing him. However, it’s clear the 6-foot-5 quarterback has special talent and some on the coaching staff ($) have even said he’s got the best arm they’ve seen.
But what will that translate to on Saturday’s this fall?
In my eyes, it will translate to a very productive quarterback and a really good offense. By season’s end, the Wolverines will have the second-best offense in the Big Ten outside of Ohio State and Milton will be a huge reason why.
Yes, he will miss Nico Collins. But the offensive line isn’t as inexperienced as it looks and Milton is surrounded by playmakers.
He will have ups and downs this season, his first as a full-time starter. That’s to be expected. But outside of Justin Fields at Ohio State, I think he’ll play as well or better than every QB in the Big Ten.
While Milton has needed to improve his accuracy and his managing of the game, his arm strength is off the charts and that should allow Michigan to hit on more deep balls this season.
There will be some rough patches and at times, the defense, as well as the running game will need to shoulder the load, but Milton will be as good as advertised and he will upgrade the position.
