Michigan Football: Wolverines could add 2022 commitment soon
Michigan football is trending with expert picks for a 2022 tight end that one expert says could make a decision soon.
While Michigan football fans may be hoping for a commitment in the 2021 recruiting class, it’s possible that the next pledge for the Wolverines actually comes in 2022.
That’s because the Wolverines are officially trending with three-star tight end Marlin Klein, a 6-foot-6 tight end from Georgia, who recently took a self-guided visit to Ann Arbor.
Klein is ranked as the No. 317 recruit in the 2022 composite rankings by 247 sports and he’s also listed as the No. 18 tight end.
But, he moved from Germany and has only been playing football for a few years. He also has offers from Florida State and Georgia. However, it looks like U-M will end up landing him.
Shortly after his visit, he picked up a crystal ball from Steve Lorenz of the Michigan Insider. Then, he also grabbed a projection from Brice Marich, both with confidence levels of six out of 10.
Another expert weighs in
At Rivals, where Klein is actually listed as a wide receiver, the Futurecast picks (four total) are also favoring the Wolverines and a big one came in today from EJ Holland, the lead Michigan expert.
Here’s what Holland wrote along ($) with his prediction Monday:
"“I mentioned that I was close to putting in a FutureCast pick for 2022 Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee tight end Marlin Klein last week. I’ve gone ahead and done that. I feel like a decision could come shortly. He made a self-guided tour of Michigan and has a strong relationship with U-M tight ends coach Sherrone Moore.”"
Michigan football currently has two commitments in the 2022 class and both of them are defenders in Tyler Martin, a four-star linebacker and four-star D-lineman Alex VanSumeren.
The Wolverines are also the crystal ball leader for a number of other top 2022 targets such as Tyler Morris, Kaleb Brown, Joshua Burnham and Dillon Tatum. Those prospects also have Futurecast picks from Holland too. Jaeden Gould is another.
But Klein could be the next one to commit to the Wolverines if a decision is coming soon. All of the prospects listed above could wind up in Ann Arbor, but none seem in a rush to make a decision.
If Klein does decide soon, sounds like it will be Michigan and even though he’s not highly ranked right now, the big tight end has tons of upside and is a good bet to outplay his ranking.
