Michigan Football: Wolverines are trending with elite 2022 targets
Michigan football picked up more expert picks for elite 2022 targets, plus an update on the race for 2021’s Rocco Spindler.
As far as Michigan football is concerned, Tuesday wasn’t really a great day on the recruiting front as an expert predicted that 2021 target Rocco Spindler would commit to Notre Dame.
There will be more on that in a second. But beyond that, the news wasn’t all bad.
And actually, looking ahead to the 2022 class, it was a really good day for the Wolverines, who are starting to trend with some elite targets.
And both of them play wide receiver.
One is a former teammate of J.J. McCarthy and that’s Tyler Morris, a four-star wideout from Illinois. Morris is the No. 12 wide receiver in the 2022 class according to the 247 composite rankings and he’s 79th overall.
Morris is 6-foot, 175 pounds and will soon have three crystal ball predictions ($) to Michigan. Steve Wiltfong and Steve Lorenz both put in picks for Morris Tuesday.
There haven’t been any Futurecast picks in for Morris yet, although EJ Holland the Michigan analyst said about Morris and Kaleb Brown, “I think Michigan has the inside track for both.”
Speaking of Brown, he’s also starting to trend to the Wolverines. He previously had a crystal ball for Michigan from Tom Loy but added one from Allen Trieu Tuesday at a confidence level of six.
Brown who is 5-foot-11 and is listed as an athlete, is ranked as the No. 38 overall player in the 247 composite rankings.
Ohio State is squarely in the mix for Brown and is probably going to be the top contender according to Trieu, but he seems to have a strong relationship with the staff already.
So even if Michigan football misses on Rocco Spindler, there is a lot to look forward to in 2022. With Morris, Brown, Joshua Burnham and Jaedon Gould, that’s four top-100 prospects in the 247 composite rankings with multiple crystal ball projections to the Wolverines. Just saying.
Latest on Rocco Spindler recruitment
While the news of crystal ball movement came on Tuesday for Rocco Spindler, according to some recruiting experts, things aren’t over yet, at least from a Michigan perspective.
All we know at this point is that both 247 sports and Rivals reported that Rocco did not inform Michigan of a decision or either school for that matter.
Steve Lorenz ($) and EJ Holland ($) both said sources at U-M believe the Wolverines are still in it. At this point, the Irish lead with Futurecast and crystal ball picks.
Obviously, those have been wrong before, but if you are starting to get the same feeling you did when Josh Christopher spurned hoops for Arizona State, you wouldn’t be alone.
The concern feels real, as does the pessimism.
