George Rooks

When it comes to Rooks, it’s really hard to get a read on what he’s doing to do, which is probably why few experts have weighed in at this point.

EJ Holland at Rivals has a Futurecast pick in and Rooks has two crystal ball projections from 247 sports and that’s it. But all of them are with Michigan. However, this is far from a slam dunk.

In addition to visiting Michigan this summer, Rooks also took his own self-guided tour to Penn State and while other schools are involved, the Nittany Lions are the biggest threat.

Rooks is set to start his high school season on Oct. 2 and he told Brian Dohn of 247 sports ($), he’d like to make his decision before then.

"“I am going to try and do it before the season. During the season, I am going to be focused on the game, then the next game, then the next game after. So I am going to try and do it before the season, which is Oct. 2, so I am going to try and do it as soon as possible.”"

Holland also had a recent update ($) about Rooks. During his visit with the four-star defensive lineman who ranks 196th in the 247 composite, he was listed at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds. Here’s more on his recruitment though:

"“Both the Michigan Penn State staffs are feeling cautiously optimistic about Rooks. It seems that they are having a tough time reading him because he is so quiet. I am as well. I didn’t get a vibe either way from him. Though, I think the safer pick is Michigan because they’ve been pushing for him the longest, and he’s more familiar with the school.”"

Hopefully that proves to be true. Rooks has been a top target for months now and he’s continually on commitment watch, becaue no one really knows when he will pull the trigger.

The Wolverines are recruiting him as a defensive tackle/defensive end type and there is no way to overstate just how a good a fit he would be in Ann Arbor.

Of course, Edwards could surprise and make an announcement before Rooks. That wouldn’t shock me. Numerous experts have said he could stick to his timeline or jump the gun.

But if I had to guess, we hear something from Rooks before Edwards.
