Michigan Football: 5 Thoughts on wild week of recruiting for Wolverines
Brown is a DUDE when it comes to recruiting
At times, it’s easy to be critical of Don Brown. I’ll admit that I’ve called for him to be fired on more than one occasion. And while I’ve been frustrated at times with on-field results, if Brown does ever leave, the void in recruiting would be hard to fill.
In the Northeast, he gives Michigan football a tremendous advantage and it’s led to a pipeline in the Massachusetts/Connecticut area. Essentially, when it comes to most players in that region, the Wolverines are in on them early because of Brown.
In the 2021 class alone, Brown was instrumental in getting commitments from tight end Louis Hansen, TJ Guy, Tristan Bounds, Kechaun Bennett and Casey Phinney, as well as Martin, who Brown was recruiting before he even got into high school.
Brown’s connections in the region help U-M get in on kids early and it’s really led to Michigan being a known quantity in the area. Obviously, it’s not leading to a ton of five-star prospects, but there is some underrated talent in the Northeast and Brown is bringing it to U-M.
