Michigan’s chances: Diminishing

Let me start by clarifying what I mean by “diminishing.” Is Michigan out of the running here? Absolutely not. But as their class fills up, and as they become the potential favorites for guys like Efton Reid and Harrison Ingram, it’s hard to imagine Keels in this class for Michigan.

Another factor could be that Michigan already has a bit of guard depth in this class with Kobe Bufkin and Isaiah Barnes. I’m sure a guy like Keels is not going to be scared away by some competition but it certainly could play a factor.

From May to July, I thought Michigan was a big-time contender to land Keels. But after talking to two people in the program last month, they both said they felt like Michigan was in a good spot to get him.

Landing Keels would be a home run for Juwan Howard. He’s the type of player to come in and elevate your program from day one. He’s a natural scorer and has one of the smoothest games in the 2021 class.

Right now I think Virginia is the favorite to land Keels. But Duke, Villanova, and Michigan are all making a late push to get him.

Keels is set to announce his top three schools soon. We will find out a lot more about his recruitment when that happens.

Prediction: Virginia
