Michigan Basketball: Predicting where top targets will land in 2021
By Max S.
Harrison Ingram
247Sports Composite: 10th overall, five-star
Contenders: Michigan, Purdue, Stanford, North Carolina
Michigan’s chances: Good
The past couple of months Michigan basketball has prioritized Ingram but they couldn’t seem to gain any ground.
Purdue and Stanford have always been seen as the favorites to land the five-star wing. But Michigan has really gained some momentum in the recruitment of Ingram this week. The buzz is getting really loud.
Dylan Burkhardt of UM Hoops had this to say about Ingram this past week ($):
"“Reached out to a couple of people and I think it’s definitely fair to say that things are trending upward for Ingram and potentially quickly. I think a decision in the next month is possible here.”"
Whether you’re on Twitter or scouring the Michigan basketball message boards, you have heard the Harrison Ingram noise this week. As his recruitment appears to be winding down, I would truly call this a dead even three-team race between Michigan, Purdue, and Stanford.
Last night, Ingram touched base with coaches from North Carolina, Stanford, and Michigan.
Ingram recently spoke to Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports and talked about Michigan ($):
"“Coach (Saddi) Washington has been the main coach recruiting me. They were the first school to come watch me play live my freshman year. But our relationship fell off when the coaching staff changed. But later I showed interest in them and they did not want to mess around, so they offered me.” “They see me as a big guard and I love the NBA experience from the coaching staff. Coach (Juwan) Howard, who was a center, can show me stuff inside. While, Coach (Howard) Eisley, who was a point guard, can show me stuff on the perimeter. The whole experience there would just be something I could not replicate anywhere else.”"
With the seemingly out of nowhere buzz for Michigan this past week and his recruitment appearing to be winding down, I’d give them the slight edge. It appears Ingram is set to announce sometime in the next two weeks.
