Michigan Football: Ranking who is likely to commit next in 2021
George Rooks
Another recruitment that’s been really hard to read this cycle for Michigan football is that of four-star defensive tackle George Rooks.
Rooks is ranked as the No. 196 prospect in 2021 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is the No. 14 defensive tackle at 6-foot-4, 260 pounds.
Since Michigan doesn’t have any defensive tackle commitments this cycle, Rooks is an obvious priority and according to EJ Holland of Rivals ($), the whole staff has been involved. But he also noted the staff told him this was a ‘weird’ recruitment:
"“From talking to a source this weekend, there still seems to be optimism with Rooks in Ann Arbor, but a source close to the program also described this recruitment as ‘weird’ and added that ‘anything can happen.’ While I have my pick in for Michigan, I definitely agree.”"
Rooks is from New Jersey, a place the Wolverines have recruited well over the years. But his dad played at Syracuse and Penn State has also been gaining traction. Rooks has also been dragging his feet on a decision. Here’s more from Holland ($):
"“Rooks was supposed to make his decision in August. But much like the aforementioned Kendall, he has remained almost silent and has continued to push back his timeline.”"
Maybe I am just spooked from the Kendall and Spindler recruitments, but this another guy who has had Michigan crystal balls, as well a Futurecast pick from Holland for months.
Between Rivals and 247, there are six expert picks for Michigan, but some of the usual Michigan experts haven’t placed picks. It’s sort of a foggy situation by definition. Like others on this list, a decision could come at any time and the longer he waits, the more worried I would be.
