Michigan football was busy on Tuesday with it being the first day to contact 2022 recruits and here’s a breakdown of new the offers extended.

Sept. 1 is a busy day in recruiting and that’s because it was the first time colleges were allowed to contact recruits in the 2022 class. For Michigan football, that meant a busy day of contacting recruits, starting at 12:01 a.m.

I don’t have the exact tabulation of how many recruits Michigan football contacted Tuesday but it had to be north of 30 in terms of total recruits contacted with new offers included.

Most of the usual suspects in 2022 all reported contacts and here’s a list (not all) of who’s been contacted (via Twitter or 247sports): Gavin Wimsatt, Jaleel Skinner, Tyler Martin, Tyrell Henry, Joshua Burnham, Derek Shepard, Tyler Booker, Keon Sabb, Will Johnson, Earl Little Jr., Domani Jackson, Alex VanSumeren, Sebastian Cheeks, Jaylen Sneed, Stephan Byrd, Jaeden Gould, Ty Simpson, Sterling Lane, Anthony Lucas, Gavin Sawchuck, Gi’Bran Payne, Earnest Greene, Treyveon Longmire, Xavier Nwankpa, Kwan Williams, Dani Dennis-Sutton, Carson Hinzman, Joe Strickland and Raleek Brown.

Not every recruit is as vocal on Twitter, so it’s hard to verify each one who was contacted. Two priority targets in 2022, wideouts Tyler Morris and Kaleb Brown, for instance, didn’t report any contacts and only re-tweeted other teammates.

Both of those guys have multiple crystal ball projections to Michigan, so we can hope that’s why they aren’t putting much out there. Either way, the staff was busy reaching out to recruits all over the country and in the process, some new offers went out, which is what we’ll breakdown next.

Michigan’s latest 2022 recruiting offers

In addition to contacting recruits with offers, the Wolverines added a number of new targets to the board and one was top-100 defensive Kenyatta Jackson.

Jackson is out of Hollywood, Florida and is ranked as the 59th overall prospect in the 2022 class. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is a dynamic edge rusher who has NFL bloodlines and registered nine sacks last season. Ohio State, Clemson and Oregon are each listed as “warm” on his 247 profile.

Jackson has no crystal ball projections at this point but he has 29 total offers and this is going be tough recruitment to win.

Another 2022 recruit who received an offer Tuesday was 6-foot-6 offensive tackle, Connor Jones, out of Colorado. Jones told Steve Lorenz of the Michigan Insider ($), “They (Michigan) are my first Power 5 offer, so I would say (they sit) very high.” Jones is ranked No. 651 in the 247 composite.

Jones wouldn’t be the last offensive lineman from Colorado to get an offer from Michigan Tuesday as the Wolverines also offered Kaden Weatherby.

Weatherby is from Aurora, Colorado and is 6-foot-6, 270 pounds. He’s ranked 652nd in the 247 sports composite rankings. He has offers from Colorado, Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State and Colorado State.

For whatever reason, the trend of the day was offering offensive lineman in Colorado, so another went out to Braden Miller, a 6-foot-7 recruit, also from Aurora, who is ranked 523rd in 2022. He has offers from Colorado, Arizona State, Kansas and Iowa State.

George Fitzpatrick, another offensive tackle from you guessed it, Colorado, was also offered by the Wolverines Tuesday. He’s 6-foot-6, 255 pounds from Englewood and is ranked No. 487 in the 247 composite. He has offers from Auburn, Arizona State, Colorado, Iowa State and Kansas.

While the Wolverines offered a bunch of three-star recruits in Colorado, Ed Warinner did offer a four-star prospect from the state of Washington in Malik Agbo. At 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, Agbo is more of a national recruit.

He’s ranked 174th in the 247 composite rankings for 2022 and the offensive tackle has offers from Oregon, LSU, USC and Tennessee among others.

Another big offer for Michigan that went out Tuesday was in the 2023 class and that was to Chicago wide receiver Carnell Tate.

Tate is an elite prospect and ranks 56th overall by 247 sports in the 2023 class. He’s 6-foot-2, 170 pounds and he’s already got a crystal ball projection from Tom Loy of 247 sports to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame also offered him Tuesday, so we will see. If Michigan wants to land him, the Irish could be the top competition.
