August 31, 2002 vs. Washington

Originally marked to face off in Seattle this year is a prime spot to kickoff this list of noteworthy matchups. It was a beautiful day to open the season with 111,000 plus in attendance at Michigan stadium.

A day that kids dream about playing in once they sign on the dotted line to commit to their school of choosing.

13th ranked Michigan got off to a 14-0 start before the Huskies came roaring from behind to close the gap.

The Wolverines scored the next 20 unanswered points going into the third quarter. After that, the contest went back and forth for the remaining time that ensued right until the final buzzer struck zero on the scoreboards.

Chris Perry highlighted Lloyd Carr’s offense with three rushing touchdowns and more than 100 yards on the ground. Braylon Edwards and Tyrece Butler added to the output with over 80 yards receiving from each of the wideouts.

In the end, though it was kicker Phillip Brabbs, who battled Troy Nienberg in camp and missed two earlier field goals that left Michigan’s faithful clamoring he would do it again.

To everyone’s surprise, with just a few ticks left, Brabbs somehow rebounded to the highest degree. He drilled a 44 yarder to seal the victory in one of the most incredible moments in Big House history. Mass hysteria then went into full effect.
