Michigan Football: Drew Kendall is making a decision, is it U-M?
We finally have word that Drew Kendall will decide this week, but will the Michigan football recruit finally choose the Wolverines?
After a recruiting saga that has dragged on far too long, Michigan football target Drew Kendall is finally set to make his decision in the next week.
This comes from Brian Dohn of 247 sports ($). Here’s what the top 2021 recruit told Dohn: “I am trying to commit (next) week but not certain on the day I’ll be announcing.”
Kendall has said that he wants to make a decision before his team starts fall camp, which according to Dohn is Sept. 2, which is Wednesday.
It sounds like Kendall wants to make his choice before then, which would end up being pretty close to the July-August timeline he talked about, even if there were some delays.

Michigan football fans have been expecting a commitment from Kendall ever since four-star guard Rocco Spindler picked Notre Dame over the Wolverines.
That seemed to be the only thing holding back Kendall, who is ranked as the No. 9 guard prospect in 2021 according to the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as 130th overall.
A few days ago, there was talk again of Kendall being worried about numbers at Michigan. Instead of being concerned about recruits, this time it was the added eligibility of other players.
But there have been some interesting dynamics at play.
Kendall’s dad was a star at Boston College and the bet is that his dad wants him to go there. Boston College has also been negatively recruiting Michigan and saying he will just be a guy there, which is where this seems to come from.
I think Kendall would have a chance to develop into a really good player at Michigan and while he might not play as early as he would at BC, his body also needs time to develop.
Kendall mentioned Michigan. Boston College, Duke and Staford to Dohn, but it seems like a Michigan-BC battle all the way and right now, I still have Michigan coming out on top.
Fallback option for Michigan on O-line?
If Michigan football does miss on Kendall, there could be another fallback option in the 2021 class and Noah Josey.
Josey is a three-star guard from Brentwood, Tennessee and he’s ranked 403rd overall in the 247 sports composite rankings. Michigan has been keeping in contact with Josey, who previously attended U-M’s recruiting BBQ.
According to Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider ($), Ed Warinner has been texting Josey on a weekly basis and the three-star recruit is still weighing his options despite having two crystal balls to Georgia:
"“I’m just really trying to weigh all my options and trying to wait and see if this stuff’s going to open up or not, and I can take some more visits before making a decision. I don’t really feel comfortable right now making a decision. So, I’m trying to wait and see if I can go out to a couple places.”"
It sounds like Josey could push his recruitment into February, as he tries to wait to be able to take visits and if plays out that way, that might not be bad for Michigan.
At that point, U-M would have a better idea on Kendall.
If he commits, then I wouldn’t expect the Wolverines to push too hard here. Five offensive linemen, especially three on the interior would be enough.
It will be interesting to watch Kendall’s crystal balls for movement in the coming days. Every single expert pick on 247 and Rivals is with Michigan. We’ll see if that changes.
