Michigan Football: Markus Alllen lives up to new 4-star ranking
One of Michigan football’s 2021 commitments, Markus Allen, went off during his first high school game of 2020 Friday night.
In its 2021 recruiting class, Michigan football is bringing in a loaded group of wide receivers and watching Markus Allen Friday night made it seem even more impressive.
Allen is a 6-foot-3 wide receiver out of Ohio. He committed to Michigan football over the summer and while his rankings have continuously improved, he’s still underrated.
To be fair, Allen did receive an upgrade in the recent update by Rivals to their 2021 rankings. Allen, who was previously a three-star recruit, was moved up into the four-star range.
Incredibly, 247 sports still has Allen ranked as the No. 118 wide receiver in the 2021 class, which is laughable. I mean that has to be a joke right? Have they not seen the kid play?
If not, his talent was on full display Friday night as Allen and his teammates opened the Ohio high school football season. And for his part, Allen didn’t disappoint.
Not only did he catch nine passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns, he also caught the game-winning touchdown from about 40 yards out, with just nine seconds remaining on the clock.
What makes it even more impressive is the fact that Allen is dealing with a shoulder injury right now. But it didn’t slow him down. Check out how he goes up and snags a touchdown.
I’ll admit, I’ve been enamored with Allen since the first time I watched his high school highlights. Even then, I couldn’t believe how underrated he was.
Over time, Allen started to get his due and he ranks No. 453 overall in the 247 composite as well as the No. 83 wide receiver. But still, there aren’t 80-some pass catchers in 2021 better.
While his size is impressive, as are his hands, I love his ball skills more than anything else.
Allen is still developing as a router runner, but he’s elite with the ball in the air. Here’s the game-winning touchdown he caught last night.
Once he gets more of the nuances down, which he is already starting to do, he’s going to be really good and again, I’ll compare him to James Jones, formerly of the Green Bay Packers.
Allen looks like a future pro. He’s just 16 years old now and he’s going to enroll at the normal time, so come next fall, watch out for Markus Allen.
