Juwan genuinely loves Michigan

At some point, Juwan Howard will probably be an NBA head coach, I don’t doubt that, but I don’t think it’s happening soon.

And one big reason is that Juwan loves Michigan. He played there and last year, you could see how much it meant to him when he teared up at his opening press conference.

To say this is a “dream” job for Howard would be accurate and I don’t think he’d leave without putting together a really impressive legacy first.

Not to mention, if Howard had wanted an NBA head coaching job, if that was his end game, he could have likely had that opportunity already. He was a serious candidate for multiple openings. It was only a matter of time.

But the Michigan job came open and while I don’t necessarily think Howard envisioned as a college head coach, U-M has a special pull, plus it was a chance to get the head-coaching experience he needed.

But that’s not the type of job you walk away from willy nilly. I believe Howard meant it when he said he wants to bring a national championship to Michigan and while I can’t guarantee he’ll achieve it, my guess is he at least gets darn close before considering a departure.
