A pleasant surprise

JD Davison drops top six and the Wolverines are still contenders.

JD is a five-star prospect from Alabama and the No. 2 PG for the 2021 class. It’s always great to see U-M featured in top lists for the best basketball players in the world, but with Collins already on the roster, this comes as a surprise and it’s unlikely Howard will get another PG for the class. Although, I’ve always said if a five-star wants a spot you give it to them.

Rodney Rice talks with staff about the possibility of joining U-M in 2022. I don’t know much about Rice, but from his rankings (four-star/70th NATL/13th SG) I can say he would be a welcomed addition to the class.

I can also tell that Michigan already has an in with the SG from the DMV area. Rodney attends DeMatha Catholic, Hunter Dickinson’s alma mater.

Michigan lands in the top 12 for five-star Hunter Sallis.

As mentioned before, Frankie is working on a pair of five-stars. Chet Holmgren is one and the other is the 19th best player in the country, combo-guard Hunter Sallis.

“I’ve been talking with Chet (Holmgren) a little and so I’m really trying hard to get him.” Collins wrote. “We also offered Hunter Sallis too and so I’m working on him. I think we’d be tough together in the backcourt.”

If Sallis were to join the Wolverines, UM would have one of the best backcourts in all of college basketball and while there’s only a small chance of it happening, one can dream.

Finally, the NBA playoffs are in full swing and some Wolverines are making a splash.

Caris LeVert is carrying his team, but he can’t do it alone and it’s showing. Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway, on the other hand, are more than just supporting cast to one of the most exciting pros in the NBA. Luka Doncic has been dominating the court, but he wouldn’t be tied with the Clippers in the series without the help of a pair of Michigan men.

Not mentioned is Duncan Robinson, who’s a member of the Miami Heat. Duncan is setting NBA records for three-pointers and you can watch him in action later today.
