Chris Evans

Another player who could really benefit from this rule is Chris Evans, who wasn’t able to play in 2019 due to academics.

Yet, Evans earned his way back on the Michigan football team for what would be his senior season of eligibility. Had the NCAA not acted, he would have been forced to choose between a shortened season or waiting until next fall to play.

And who knows, he still may have to wait until next fall to play. But the big thing is Evans can play in the shortened season and if he does well, then maybe he can declare for the draft or the supplemental draft, we don’t know how that will work.

But if he is rusty or gets injured after a few games, he would still have the chance to come back to play in the fall of 2021.

The problem is that if Michigan lands a guy like Donovan Edwards, that will mean that the backfield is even more crowded.

On the other hand, Evans who has averaged 5.7 yards per attempt on 304-career carries and 9.8 yards per reception on 40 catches, can still produce, even in a limited role.

He has proven that he doesn’t need to get 15-20 carries a game to be effective and that was even before Josh Gattis was calling the plays. Now, Evans should be utilized even more as a receiver.

Maybe Evans will show enough in the shortened campaign to go to the draft, if those players are allowed, but if not, he will have the chance to stick around and improve his value in 2021.
