Michigan Football: Wolverines continue push with elite 2022 recruits
Michigan football continues the push with elite recruiting targets in 2022, plus we look at latest crystal ball for the Wolverines.
With the recruiting board getting thinner in the 2021 class for Michigan football, some of the focus is turning to 2022.
And the good news for Michigan football fans is that as far as elite targets are concerned, the Wolverines are in a good spot.
Two of those targets are from Illinois and they are wide receivers Tyler Morris and Kaleb Brown. Both are four-star recruits and both have a connection to five-star commitment, in 2021, J.J. McCarthy, playing 7-on-7 with him. Morris was actually his high school teammate too.
The Wolverines, mainly Sherrone Moore and Josh Gattis, have established a strong relationship with both and each are ranked in the top 100 of the 247 composite rankings for 2022.
Morris is ranked 77th overall in the composite rankings and is the 11th among wide receivers. Brown is 40th overall and sixth among wideouts.
In even better news, a number of experts from 247 sports have already put in crystal ball picks for Michigan. Brown has three picks projecting him to U-M, while Morris has four. The average confidence level for Brown is six, for Morris it’s seven (on a 1-10 scale).
And according to Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider ($), both receivers were set to speak with the coaching staff Wednesday night.
That doesn’t necessarily mean there is a commitment coming anytime soon. But the Wolverines are in the pole position for both and the relationship seems to keep getting stronger.
Michigan football also in contact with elite corner
Another important target in the 2022 class is cornerback William Johnson, who is from Gross Pointe Blank, Michigan.
Not only is Johnson, a 6-foot-3 defensive back, the top recruit in the state of Michigan in 2022, he’s ranked as the 8th-best player in the country.
Johnson has visited before and has strong connections, since his dad Deon was formerly a Wolverine.
While there aren’t any crystal balls for Johnson, the Wolverines continue to put themselves in a strong position and spoke with Johnson again Wednesday according to Steve Lorenz of the Michigan Insider ($).
Speaking of Lorenz, he placed a crystal ball ($) for a top Michigan target in 2023. That target is Preston Zinter, the younger brother of Michigan offensive lineman, Zak Zinter.
Zinter is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds and he plays tight end. He also has a Futurecast prediction from EJ Holland of Rivals and Lorenz is also projecting him to U-M with a confidence level of six.
