Michigan Football: 2022 targets trend elsewhere, more on Drew Kendall
Some notable targets in 2022 have started to trend to other programs with crystal ball picks, plus more on four-star recruit Drew Kendall.
In the saga that has become the recruitment of Drew Kendall, Michigan football was in touch with the four-star offensive guard again Tuesday night.
This comes via Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider ($) who reported earlier Tuesday that offensive line coach Ed Warinner would be speaking with Kendall again.
Obviously, the Wolverines are trying to push Kendall to commit. U-M missed out on Rocco Spindler and despite some other offensive line feelers in 2021, the board is basically down to Kendall.
Michigan has four recruits committed already and two four-star guys on the interior in Greg Crippen and Raheem Anderson.
Kendall would sort of be the cherry on top. That essentially would give Michigan someone to develop at each spot.
Many see Giovanni El-Hadi as a right tackle, while Tristan Bounds, the 6-foot-8 behemoth, seems like a left tackle, although he could play on either side.
Anderson and Crippen have both played center, and Crippen is expected to be a guard at Michigan, which is where Kendall would play.
We’ll see what happens, but Michigan football has done everything it can do with Kendall, the ball is in his court at this point.
2022 targets projected elsewhere
A couple of Michigan targets in 2022 have started to trend with crystal ball projections to other schools.
One of them is three-star quarterback Steven Angeli out of Bergen Catholic in New Jersey. The Wolverines have had success at that school and they’ve been after Angeli, but it’s not like he is Michigan’s top priority at quarterback either.
247 sports has him ranked as the No. 16 pro-style quarterback in 2022 and he’s now got three crystal ball picks to Notre Dame. The average confidence level is eight.
MJ Morris and Maalik Murphy are some of the top-ranked quarterbacks Michigan has been after. Ty Simpson is another and Gavin Wimsatt is another name to watch.
Angeli could still be in play down the road too. It’s still early, but it seems like he will be playing his college football for Notre Dame, which would leave one less option at QB in 2022 for Michigan.
Speaking of 2022, there was some hope that the Wolverines would be able to duplicate the success they had in 2019, landing five-star recruit Daxton Hill out of Oklahoma.
Gentry Williams is another five-star who ranks ninth in the 247 composite rankings for 2022. Williams went to the same high school as Hill and Michigan has been in the mix.
But Williams is trending with crystal ball picks to Oklahoma. Yet, that doesn’t mean Michigan football is out of it with five-star safeties.
Another that has the eye of Michigan is New Jersey five-star Keon Sabb. He’s from Williamstown and is the top-ranked player in the state as well as No. 7 overall in the 2022 class.
Sabb is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and he’s a beast. Michigan also continues to be a factor in his recruitment and Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider ($) reported that multiple sources told him Michigan is among the favorites.
Bob Shoop, the new safeties coach has been recruiting Sabb very hard and the five star has also FaceTimed with Jim Harbaugh.
Sabb’s offer list includes Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, Penn State and Ohio State, among others.
