Not all expert predictions are created equal and Michigan football landed a big one in 2021 for its top recruiting target in Donovan Edwards.

The recruitment of Donovan Edwards has been an interesting one, but it’s one that Michigan football is winning.

And on Thursday, there was another very good sign for Michigan football that this will end up going in its direction as Sam Webb of the Michigan Insider ($), put in a crystal ball for Edwards to the Wolverines.

This crystal ball comes on the heels of Oklahoma trending for Camar Wheaton, another elite running back in 2021. The Sooners have been thought to be Michigan’s top competition for Edwards, who even told Webb, “I have to get to Oklahoma.”

But now that the Sooners are likely to get Wheaton, that will probably take them out of the mix for Edwards. The No. 2 player in the state of Michigan and No. 34 overall in the 2021 class told Webb a “couple” of schools were standing out.

Those schools are likely Michigan and Oklahoma, although he mentions USC and Florida as schools to watch if visits are able to happen. The dead period was recently extended.

There has been talk of Georgia or Alabama being able to get into the mix, especially with the Big Ten moving football to the spring. Yet, there’s a chance Edwards could play for the Wolverines in the spring semester, along with other freshmen, so who knows if that helps or hurts?

At any rate, Webb put his crystal ball in with a confidence level of six, on a scale of 1-10. Steve Lorenz also of the Michigan Insider ($) also said he was on the verge of doing the same Thursday. Here’s what he wrote about how the staff is feeling right now:

"“As things stand now, I am on the verge of a 247Sports Crystal Ball for Edwards, but am going to dig further. I do know, however, that confidence within Schembechler is growing based on how the dominoes appear to be falling in Michigan’s favor.”"

Now, Webb’s crystal ball and the confidence from Lorenz don’t necessarily mean that a decision is imminent. Just that the Wolverines are firmly in the pole position.

With Edwards, it could still go down to signing day or beyond, which is the same scenario for Rayshaun Benny. Both are familiar with Michigan as the in-state power. Both have great relationships with the coaching staff too.

It’s just a matter of making the commitment. But in both instances, the Wolverines appear to be leading and with Edwards, it’s starting to feel more solid.
