The QB play will improve

I’ll say that I’m more bullish on Michigan football’s quarterback situation than most. Certainly, the lack of spring football hurt both Joe Milton and Dylan McCaffrey, but how much? We don’t know.

In the end, I don’t know that they will be impacted more than any other college quarterbacks and both seemed quite busy during the offseason.

Spring ball could have given us a better idea of where the quarterback battle stands, but whoever starts against Purdue in Week 1, I think both will play early in the season.

Milton brings a superior arm to the table and if he has the accuracy and decision making to go along with that arm talent, I see him emerging as the guy. But too many are discounting McCaffrey, who is a solid passer and a talented athlete in his own right.

Both quarterbacks will be blessed with a talented offensive line, a strong group of backs and receivers, as well as a second year in Josh Gattis‘ offensive system.

In other words, the quarterbacks don’t have to carry the load, at least not right away. But as the season goes on, I’d expect an upgrade at the position over a year ago.
