Michigan Football: What’s next for Wolverines 2021 recruiting class?
Donovan Edwards or bust?
The other position where Michigan hasn’t added any commitments yet is at running back. That’s obviously where Donovan Edwards plays and at this point he’s likely the top recruit on the board.
This class can still be good without Edwards, but like Spindler, it would always feel a little disappointing. Also, unlike with Spindler, there isn’t another four-star recruit hopefully waiting in the wings as a backup option.
Edwards’ recruitment feels like a lot likes Benny’s at this point. If things don’t change soon in terms of being able to take visits, it just seems things will go Michigan’s way.
It just makes sense that Edwards would go to U-M and it feels like that’s where he could make the biggest impact. He’s also the No. 2 player in the state. So if the Wolverines somehow missed on Spindler and Edwards, it would be a huge blow.
Taiverre Dunlap, a three-star running back in the composite rankings and a four-star according to 247’s own rankings, is another option at running back. Michigan sent him an official scholarship, but the Wolverines can’t wait to make a strong push forever.
With Edwards, Holland has a Futurecast in and there are six crystal ball projections sending him to Michigan. Notably absent are Steve Lorenz and Sam Webb for Michigan, so there are still questions there.
Either way, whether it’s Edwards, Dunlap or another dark horse, it feels like Michigan is taking just one running back in 2021.
