The Michigan football program has 21 players committed as part of the 2021 class and after Andrel Anthony’s commitment, what’s next for Wolverines?

It’s hard not to feel good about what Michigan football has done on the recruiting trail during the 2021 cycle. Landing three-star recruit Andrel Anthony this week over Michigan State was just the latest in a string of 19 commitments during the dead period.

Anthony’s was among the most satisfying. His recruitment represented one of the first true head-to-head recruiting battle between Jim Harbaugh and new Spartans head coach Mel Tucker and the Wolverines got the best of that exchange.

Anthony, a 6-foot-2 receiver who should fit perfectly in the speed-in-space offense, was long thought to be a Michigan State lean. He would have been a good get for the Spartans as the No. 529 prospect in 2021 and the No. 82 wide receiver in the 247 composite rankings.

He’s probably even a little underrated. I think he would definitely would have been an impact player at Michigan State, but with the Wolverines, he could still have a chance to play early on.

Michigan football has a lot of speed at receiver, but not a lot of size. At least, not before this recruiting class. Nico Collins is obviously a big dude, but he will be graduating and that leaves Corneilus Johnson and Roman Wilson as the only 6-foot plus wideouts.

Now, the Wolverines have added four more and the group is special. Christian Dixon, a four-star in the 247 composite, was ranked in the top 10 among receivers by Sports Illustrated in 2021.

Xavier Worthy, another recruit, was named one of ESPN’s 25 most impactful recruits and Markus Allen, the other receiver commit, is only 16 years old. Oh and Anthony also has interest in playing basketball.

That’s a really exciting group of receivers, but the addition of Anthony should be the last wideout in 2021, although the Wolverines sent an official scholarship to Jayden Thomas, so who knows?

The baseball program is really interested in him and it’s possible, if the Wolverines have an open spot in December, when he’s planning on decide, that they could take him. But he received a crystal ball from 247’s Tom Loy Saturday for Notre Dame and the Irish might be tough to beat

So what’s next for the Wolverines? Well trying to land Rocco Spindler, comes to mind, but here’s more on him and other key questions.
