Michigan Basketball: 2020 Depth chart prediction for Wolverines
Starter: Isaiah Livers
Backups: Brandon Johns Jr, Terrance Williams
Without Isaiah Livers, Michigan wasn’t better off, but they weren’t exactly at the bottom of the barrel in the NCAA in terms of talent. Livers returning ensures the Wolverines won’t get worse than last season, but if Brandon Johns Jr made any significant jumps in development in the offseason, UM would have been left in good hands.
But Johns will have to wait another year to lead the maize and blue. Arguably Michigan’s best three-point shooter, Livers is another candidate for Big Ten POY and could become a first-round draft pick if he gets better at creating his own shot. Isaiah has tremendous accuracy from deep, he’s just not so good at opening up space for himself. Working on his speed and crossovers will be key to raising his draft stock.
When Livers can’t get his game going, or when he needs a break, Brandon won’t damper the offense. He hasn’t been as consistent from the perimeter, but he’s still a threat that the defense will have to account for and he’s, on occasion, been the one to throw the team over his shoulder and take over a game, and other times, he might as well be invisible.
Terrance Williams was listed at 6-foot-6, but in the recently released roster, Williams is 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds. He’s tied for third heaviest on the team with Johns Jr and Jaron Faulds and only ten+ pounds off from the designated centers. With his size and talent, he can rotate in at either the three or four.
