Michigan Basketball: Who’s left on Wolverines 2021 prospect board?
Time for the low post
The Wolverines have two centers for 2020 and, potentially, no one to fill the five for the 2021-22 season if Dickinson, Michigan’s top 2020 recruit, becomes a one-and-done. There must be an addition.
5-STAR C Charles Bediako
Sometimes, high school players never get noticed even though they may be deserving of a look. Other times, it’s easy to pick out top talent and those kids are usually brought in to the national circuit. Charles Bediako is the second type of high school athlete. While he’s listed as a center, his coach mentioned that Bediako’s style would likely have him transition to PF by the time he reaches the NBA.
5-STAR C Efton Reid
You might get to see Bediako start at forward with Efton Reid joining him at IMG Academy in Florida. Efton is a dominant center, and he could skip college for the G League, or he could reclass to 2020 and join a college roster.
5-STAR C Nate Bittle
When you read about Nate Bittle, you’ll see his interest in staying out west and that appears to be a priority for him. There is a well-documented top four which doesn’t include the Wolverines, although Michigan is sitting just outside of them for the services of the ninth-best player for the 2021 class.
5-STAR C Chet Holmgren
The only reason Chet Holmgren is listed as a center is that he’s a seven-footer. Other than that, he exhibits zero characteristics of the position. I’ve heard of the description of point forward, but I’ve never heard point center, and that’s precisely what Chet is. He can do anything and everything, including breaking Steph Curry’s ankles.
This is a pipe dream pick up for the Wolverines even though they seem to be advancing in his recruitment. Holmgren is within the top three for the cycle.
