Michigan Football: Predicting offensive stat leaders for 2020
Rushing leaders
Zach Charbonnet has a really impressive freshman season for Michigan football. But what makes it even more impressive is that he was never really healthy.
Charbonnet battled knee injuries and it showed. He never really had the explosiveness you saw on his high school tape and while he was effective, you knew he had another gear.
The freshman showed what he could do against Alabama, and buoyed by that performance I fully expected Charbonnet to break the 1,000-yard plateau this season.
He scored 11 touchdowns a year ago and averaged 4.9 yards on 149 attempts. This year, I expect that average to move up and even though the schedule may be limited to 10 games, Charbonnet will still push for 1,000 yards.
I also think he will notch double-digit rushing touchdowns for the second straight season, leading the Wolverines in both categories. Hassan Haskins is another skilled runner and he will be very produtive too.
Yet, with Chris Evans and Blake Corum in the fold, there could be fewer opportunities for Haskins, especially if Charbonnet establishes himself as the bell-cow.
But 500-700 yards and 5-7 touchdowns still seem reasonable for Haskins behind what will be a better-than-expected offensive line.
