Michigan football coaches were in contact with 2021 target Daymon David Wednesday, the same day incoming freshman Aaron Lewis transferred.

If you haven’t heard, the Michigan football program is already dealing with a loss looking ahead to the 2020 season as incoming freshmen Aaron Lewis has entered the transfer portal.

If you remember, Michigan football flipped Lewis is the last recruiting cycle and the three-star defensive end enrolled early and was a prospect people were excited about.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive end really liked Michigan too and had a positive experience in his short time there. However, he told 247 sports ($), he was transferring to stay close to home due to health issues with his mother.

Obviously, it’s the right decision for him as the New Jersey product is looking to be closer to home and mentioned Rutgers and Penn State as potential destinations. It’s too bad but most importantly, we wish Aaron’s mother a full recovery.

On the recruiting trail, a key piece of new info to pass along regarding three-star safety target in 2021, Daymon David, is the fact that head coach Jim Harbaugh and safeties coach Bob Shoop had a FaceTime meeting with David Wednesday via Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider ($).

Like Rod Moore, Michigan’s current safety commitment in 2021, David isn’t highly-rated but seems due for a jump in the rankings. The 6-foot-1, 172-pounder knows how to hit and there’s a reason why he’s the top target on the safety board right now.

David is out of Maryland is ranked 1,133rd in the 247 composite rankings right now as well as 91st among safeties. But rankings can be deceiving and Moore was rated in a similar fashion before nearly making the leap to being a four-star prospect, which he still could.

Who knows if David will climb that high, but watching his highlights and his hitting ability, makes you think he’s an underrated prospect, which the interest from Michigan confirms. The Wolverines have done really well scouting these types of recruits as Moore and others exemplify.

Oklahoma has been in the mix, along with Boston College, Indiana, Miami, Maryland and others. Mississippi State also jumped in with an offer this week.

It doesn’t seem like the Wolverines are anywhere near being considered the leader, but it’s not for a lack of effort and he’s definitley a recruit to watch as we get closer to early signing day.
