Following his performance in the Elite 11, Michigan football commit J.J. McCarthy dropped in the 247 sports recent quarterback rankings for 2021.

It was a big deal for the Michigan football program when J.J. McCarthy, the Wolverines 2021 commit at quarterback took part in the Elite 11 competition recently.

McCarthy, who is rated as a five-star prospect according to the 247 sports composite rankings, did well in the event. Yet, he wasn’t as solid and consistent as some others, at least in the view of 247 sports, which rated him seventh overall in its rankings for the week.

Well on Wednesday, 247 sports released its updated quarterback rankings for the 2021 class and McCarthy was dropped a spot in the quarterback rankings and six spots overall.

Brock Vandagriff who is committed to play at Georgia, was ranked second at the Elite 11 by 247 sports, which then led him to leap over McCarthy in the rankings as the No. 4 quarterback.

In the 247 sports composite rankings, McCarthy is still rated as the No. 2 pro-style passer as well as the No. 18 prospect in the class overall. He’s also still ranked higher than Kyle McCord, Ohio State’s 2021 commit, in the 247 rankings and the composite rankings.

McCarthy was also named a Second-Team Preseason High School All-American by Max Preps on Tuesday. The only Michigan football commit to make First-Team Preseason All-American was three-star punter Tommy Doman.

Michigan football is getting a beast at tight end

Another player who didn’t make Preseason All-American is four-star tight end Louis Hansen. But when Michigan football fans realize how fast and talented this kid is, they might wonder why?

At some point, fans will also wonder why 247 sports ranked Hansen so low. Right now, Rivals has the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder as the No. 4 tight end in the 2021 class and 68th overall.

247 sports, on the other hand, are out of their minds with Hansen ranked at No. 21 among tight ends. He’s No. 252 in the 247 composite, but clearly, he’s been overlooked.

And according to Steve Lorenz of the Michigan Insider ($), Hansen recently ran a laser-timed 4.7 in the 40-yard dash. With that time and his ability, he should be a top-100 recruit. It’s also why you shouldn’t worry about Michigan missing out on Thomas Fidone.

The Wolverines already have an elite tight end in the 2021 class and with Hansen, McCarthy and Xavier Worthy, as well as possibly Donovan Edwards and Rocco Spindler, the staff is loading up on offensive talent.
