Michigan basketball picked up a crystal ball pick from 247 sports for 2021 forward Will Tschetter.

The Michigan basketball program got the 2021 recruiting cycle off to a strong start with the recent commitment of four-star wing Isaiah Barnes. And now, if one recruiting expert is right, the Wolverines could pick up another verbal commitment sooner rather than later.

Citing sources close to the program, The Michigan Insider’s Josh Henschke ($) placed a crystal ball projection for three-star power forward Will Tschetter out of Minnesota to U-M.

Last season, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 34.4 points and 10.8 rebounds last season in high school ball, which are crazy numbers, especially for someone ranked 149th overall in the 247 composite rankings and 28th among power forwards.

Tschetter is one player in particular that definitely missed out on some of the evaluation periods this spring and summer, which would have helped him improve his standing. But there is no doubting his talent. He shoots the ball well and is a versatile big man.

Like Barnes, he’s under the radar right now and that could give Michigan basketball a chance to pounce and according to Henschke, the Wolverines are taking advantage of it.

In-state Big Ten rival Minnesota is the biggest competitor right now for Tschetter, however, he has said before he has no problem leaving the state. That’s what he told Rivals, which ranks him 142nd overall.

Here’s the key statement from Henschke ($), who placed his crystal ball with a confidence level of six:

"“While I don’t feel a commitment to the Wolverines is necessarily imminent, I feel as if Tschetter’s recruitment has transformed more into a when not an if he will commit to the Wolverines.”"

Tschetter would be a really solid pickup for Juwan Howard and company who are also doing a good job with a number of five-star prospects in the 2021 class, including Charles Bediako, a five-star big man from Canada who recently included Michigan basketball in his top 10.

According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($), the Wolverines have done well in his recruitment and he bonded well with Juwan Howard and others. Michigan also has a track record of doing well with Canadian and international players.

It may or may not help with Bediako, but landing someone Tschetter, as with Barnes, would give Michigan a versatile piece for the frontcourt to build around, allowing Howard and company to chase after some of the five-star talents after that.
