Michigan football isn’t even finished with the 2021 recruiting cycle and already, the Wolverines are off to a good start with multiple 2023 recruits.

In this new world of recruiting, you can never start early enough and as far as the Michigan football program is concerned, the 2023 cycle is off to a solid start.

You might be thinking that the Wolverines are still working on their 2021 cycle and heck, they only have one guy committed so far in 2022. But things happen earlier and earlier with recruits and when Michigan football offered Amir Herring this week, it made an impact with the young offensive tackle from West Bloomfield, Michigan.

That’s the same school Donovan Edwards is from. Also Makari Paige and Cornell Wheeler. Well, Holland and a slew of experts from 247 sports didn’t wait long after the offer to put in predictions for Herring to wind up in Ann Arbor.

More from Michigan Football

Holland made the prediction ($) and said Michigan was the school Herring really wanted an offer from. Herring, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds on his 247 sports profile, also got crystal ball projections from Sam Webb, Allen Trieu and Josh Newkirk, each with a confidence level of six or higher.

Yet, the Wolverines have been doing a solid job with some other 2023 recruits and most of them happen to play along the line of scrimmage. One is Cole Dellinger.

You may recognize the last name and he is Garrett Dellinger’s brother. He holds a Michigan offer among others and while he doesn’t have any expert picks yet, the Wolverines have a good relationship there.

Another 2023 recruit with ties to Michigan football is Preston Zinter, the brother of Zak Zinter. Holland said he placed a Futurecast ($) pick for Zinter, a tight end/defensive end who also has an offer from Nebraska.

As we learned with Xavier Worthy this week, these projections can change quickly. Looking back, the Wolverines had expert picks from Rivals and 247 from Nicco Marchiol and then things changed. He’s projected to Florida State now.

But overall, you have to like where the Wolverines sit in 2022, both with prospects on offense and defense and now in 2023. In the past, at times, it seemed like Michigan football was a little behind some of the other programs, but that’s changed.

The Wolverines got an early start with key commitments in 2021 from J.J. McCarthy and Giovanni El-Hadi, plus a commitment in 2022 from Alex VanSumeren. And if these expert picks prove to be correct, we can expect another strong run of commitments to kick off 2023.
