Before the submarine submerges into full camp mode, Michigan football QB Dylan McCaffrey has to focus on resolving a few knocks in his game.

The quarterback play leading into 2020 is one of the most talked about topics in recent Michigan football history. Dylan McCaffrey finds himself smack dab in the heart of the conversation. He’s waited patiently backing up Shea Patterson and now is the time to show the world what he’s learned from the work put in thus far.

Like everyone else he has imperfections and is not a complete product. After watching his game tape there’s still room to develop into what the coaching staff saw in him when they recruited him to Ann Arbor. He’s flashed glimpses of what his ceiling can be and it’s surely promising. Putting the full repertoire together is what Josh Gattis and Jim Harbaugh must find a way to bring it out of him soon enough.

As camp precedes the goal is to get McCaffrey in midseason form like no time was missed. How Michigan football plans to make up for said lost time in this day and age will be dictated by what the virus allows the Wolverines to do for the remainder of the summer. Having that unknown hanging over their heads with the yearly effort they grind so hard for is as debilitating as it gets.

By fighting alongside Joe Milton for the opportunity of a lifetime this should only make both better competitors. Opening up on the west coast with a first-time starter at the most important position on the field is a fear filled risk to take, but for a program that is starving to maintain annual playoff relevance, it can define the course of a season.
