Michigan Football: 4-star WR Christian Dixon commits to Wolverines
Michigan football added its 19th commitment to the 2021 class Thursday as four-star wide receiver Christian Dixon announced for the Wolverines.
When it came to four-star wide receiver Christian Dixon, you knew his commitment could come at any time and on Thursday morning, he announced he would join Michigan football as part of the Wolverines’ 2021 recruiting class.
The commitment is the end of an interesting recruitment. Well, it’s not the end because Dixon could still take visits in the fall, along with other recruits, however, it’s still a nice win for the Wolverines.
Here’s Dixon making the announcement on Twitter.
While Dixon was recently dropped from a four-star prospect to a three star in the 247 rankings for 2021, he’s still a four-star prospect in the 247 composite ranking 210th overall and 38th among receivers. 247 has him ranked as the No. 96 wideout which is just ridiculous. He was 44th last week. Yet, Rivals has the 6-foot-2 receiver 175th overall.
Dixon is the ninth commitment in Michigan’s 2021 class to rank in the Rivals top 200. He also gives Michigan football a 10th four-star commitment out of 19 total, putting the Wolverines blue-chip ratio above 50 percent.
Scouting Michigan football’s newest commitment in 2021 class
Here’s the scouting report on Dixon, who is out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, from 247 sports analyst Blair Angulo:
"Athletic build with length. Highly projectable frame to add size without sacrificing fluidity. Dynamic pass-catcher and down-field threat. Major nuisance on the outside. Physicality to overmatch defensive backs and technical enough to be a weapon over the middle. Short strider who is still refining technique, but has major potential. Decent top-end speed. Needs to get out of breaks quicker to become more consistent. Potential multi-year starter at the Power Five level and upside as NFL Draft Day 2 selection."
With bigger receivers such as Donovan Peoples-Jones and Tarik Black gone, as well as Nico Collins set for graduation, the Wolverines needed bigger receivers in 2021 and Dixon is the second addition along with Markus Allen, another 6-foot-2 pass catcher.
Dixon may not have blazing speed and that’s one reason why 247 sports may have dropped him. Yet, the Wolverines have been all over him and recruited him really hard during this dead period. He hasn’t visited Ann Arbor but his commitment feels solid.
We’ll have more on Dixon and what his pledge means in the big picture soon.
