Michigan Football: Any hope for Dallas Turner, Garrett Dellinger?
Michigan football made the top five of Dallas Turner and the top four of Garrett Dellinger. But what is the chance they will choose the Wolverines?
Michigan football‘s recruiting board is set to shrink even further in the coming days and weeks as more and more targets announce their decisions.
On Wednesday, the Wolverines will hear from Garrett Dellinger, a four-star tackle from Clarkston. He’s ranked 79th in the 247 sports composite rankings and Michigan football has been recruiting him hard in recent weeks, but LSU still looks like the favorite.
Reportedly, Dellinger has made up a commitment video and it has two endings, one has him going to Michigan and the other to LSU. So the Wolverines have at least done a solid job recruiting the kid and probably won’t stop even if he commits to LSU.
Michigan is recruiting his teammate, Rocco Spindler, another top-100 offensive line and the Wolverines have also extended an offer ($) to Garrett’s younger brother, Cole Dellinger, who is part of the 2023 class.
Offensive line coach Ed Warinner seems to have a good relationship with Dellinger and there has been frequent communication. He just always seemed to want to go out of state, but there are reasons to keep things positive, even if it helps out with his brother down the road.
It never seemed like Michigan was going to get Dellinger and Spindler. Of course, there’s no guarantee U-M gets Rocco either but you can’t complain getting one of the two. Dellinger will decide at Noon today.
Michigan football makes final list for elite pass rusher
Another high-end target for the Wolverines, four-star pass rusher Dallas Turner, will be deciding next week on July 1. He included U-M among his final five teams which also feature Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Oklahoma.
While LSU owns all of Dellinger’s crystal ball projections, Turner’s were more split until recently. Alabama now controls 77 percent of them, with Georgia at 22 percent. Turner is ranked 44th overall in the 247 composite and would be a dream pairing alongside Junior Colson.
Turner is the dominating pass rusher this class is missing right now. Colson is more of a blizter and even though there are guys with lots of potential, Turner looks like a future first or second rounder.
Michigan did gain some traction with him, and two of his teammates, Jaydon Hood and Ja’Den McBurrows are committed, plus he liked what the Wolverines did with Josh Uche, which is the role they sold him on.
However, it seems like a long shot that he chooses Michigan. Like Dellinger, U-M will probably keep recruiting him, because at linebacker, such as the offensive line in this class, the core pieces are in place, so the Wolverines can focus almost solely on Turner.
But as far as getting commitments from Dellinger or Turner, I wouldn’t expect it, despite a solid recruiting job from the staff in both instances.
