PF and C

The really big men

PF Efton Reid

247 sports: 20 NATL, 3 C, 2 VA

Rivals: 24 NATL, 4 C

ESPN: 17 NATL, 2 C, 2 VA

With Team Takeover reunited in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines might finish out 2021-22 undefeated. Dickinson, Williams, Keels, and Efton Reid were a fine squad last year and they could be whole again should Trevor and Efton follow the same path.

If he does pick the Wolverines, it will be because of the coaches. Reid has spoken highly of both Martelli and Howard.

“First of all, (Martelli) is a really great coach,” Reid told The Michigan Insider. “(Based on) all the years he has coached; he has tremendous knowledge in this game. It’s just fun to be around that type of dude because you just want to learn so much from him. And he is such a smart intellectual individual. His vibe is really good. My mom is always telling me to surround (yourself) with people that are smarter than you so you can learn from them.”

And about coach Howard…

“The connection has been really great because actually in eighth grade I took a picture with (Howard), which is crazy,” Reid stated. “And now he is recruiting me, so I just find that to be funny. The connection is great because he has gotten to where I want to be, and that’s the NBA. And he has gone through all the challenges that I have yet to face. (He) would be a really great role model for me and mentor down the road.”

Great, so what will be the deciding factor?

“For me it’s the relationship with the head coach and the other coaches,” he said. “And just getting a relationship with them. I want to feel like we’re a big family. The family aspect is huge for me because I’m really close with my family, and I consider my guys as my family. So, I want to feel that aspect of it.”

To summarize, Efton Reid has a great relationship with the Michigan coaches and he wants to attend a school where he has a great relationship with the coaches. Why is this not a done deal?

Jerry Meyer with the evaluation:

"Has NBA center size. Game is skill based and not athletically based. Has good footwork and touch in post. Can stretch defense to three-point line. Comfortable with the ball as a passer. Has good hands and rebounds his area. Not a big shot blocker. Positional defender inside. Needs to improve quickness to defend on perimeter."

C Chet Holmgren

247 sports: 2 NATL. 1 C, 1 MN

Rivals: 4 NATL, 1 C

ESPN: 1 NATL, 1 PF, 1 MN

Chet Holmgren, the seven-footer from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, MN, has a play style that you wouldn’t guess by looking at him. He’s tall, thin, and the kind of kid that a coach might tell to stay under the basketball and rebound for the ball handlers and shooter.

Instead, Chet is the ball handler, the shooter, the rebounder, the shot blocker, the one-on-one defender, and the best player on any team.

Watch him blow past Steph Curry with one of Curry’s favorite moves. No, not lookalike Steph Curry, the Steph Curry.

This evaluation comes from Josh Gershon:

"Extremely unique player who is unlike almost any American prospect in recent years. Good size, long arms and plus athleticism but very narrow frame. Extremely physically immature and may take a while to put on strength due to narrow shoulders/base. Despite lack of strength, very tough kid with impressive mental makeup. Has range to perimeter with jumper, good body control and high feel. Outstanding rim protector and rebounder. Level 10 motor. Hard to be overly critical outside of lack of strength/narrow frame. Projects as lottery pick."
