Can Johnson fill in for DPJ?

Michigan football has some really talented wideouts coming back after last season, as well as prized newcomers A.J. Henning and Roman Wilson.  However, the Wolverines lost not only Tarik Black to the transfer portal but also Donovan Peoples-Jones to the NFL.

I understand that DPJ underachieved at Michigan and probably never reached his full potential. But he was still a guy that defenses had to focus on and he was a tough guy to handle, especially in the red zone, with 14 touchdown receptions over the past two seasons.

Obviously, the Wolverines aren’t hurting for talent with Nico Collins, Ronnie Bell, Giles Jackson and Mike Sainristil all returning, along with Cornelius Johnson. The problem is that outside of Johnson, a 6-foot-3 receiver, the rest of those guys are probably better suited to the slot.

So on the outside, opposite side of Nico, Michigan is going to need another big body to develop. I do think Bell could do well outside, but he’s best in the slot, so Johnson, who caught three passes a year ago and a touchdown against Michigan State, is my go-to guy to fill in for DPJ.
