Is Zeb Jackson the answer at PG?

Meet Zeb Jackson, a top-100 player nationally everywhere but 247 sports. Rivals has him at 89 and ESPN has him way down at 77.

Starting out as a point guard, Jackson’s game evolved as he grew and is considered by the recruiting services as a shooting guard where he is listed as in the top 15 nationally. Although, he’s fluid and he can make the switch easily, and with Michigan basketball’s position-less scheme, he’s a perfect fit.

While it might seem you can dismiss Zeb and leave it up to veterans Smith and Brooks to assume the majority of minutes, Juwan said in his depth chart, there are four candidates for the starting gig, including Zeb Jackson.

There are good reasons why Zeb is already in consideration for the role. At Montverde Academy this season, he was playing on a roster filled with future Division I talent and he thrived in his new environment. His range, floor vision, defense, and rebounding are just a few of the qualities that have earned him the trust of a coach he didn’t initially commit to.

Matt’s musings

This situation is similar to that of the battle for the starting center job. In both cases, you have a veteran that’s a proven commodity and a newcomer with limitless potential. I’ve long said Austin Davis is going to start the season as the big man down low and once freshman Hunter Dickinson finds his footing, he’ll take over.

I believe the same thing happens at PG. The veteran shows the new guy how it’s done until the student surpasses the master.
