Michigan Football: Still reason for hope with 4-star Garrett Dellinger?
Michigan football has been working hard to try and land four-star offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger and those efforts might be paying off finally.
In the 2021 recruiting class, the state of Michigan is loaded with talent, especially on the offensive line. Michigan football landed a couple of the top prospects in Giovanni El-Hadi and Raheem Anderson and are also in good position with Rocco Spindler, although things are far from over.
In another recruiting battle, for Spindler’s teammate, four-star and top-100 offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger, things did sort of seem over. LSU has been viewed as the favorite for some time and with him set to commit later this month, there wasn’t really any reason to think otherwise.
Now, according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider ($), there might be.
To be clear, if Michigan was able to get Dellinger to commit, it would be a huge crystal ball upset as all 11 of his predictions have him committing to the Tigers June 24. Even Webb recently put in a crystal ball for Dellinger to LSU but recently, he said he had reason to lower his confidence level.

In this post, Webb talks about it and it comes down to a couple of things. One there has been constant contact between Michigan football and Dellinger still. Also, Webb reports ($) that Dellinger is putting together a recruiting video with two endings, meaning, there could still be a decision to be made between the Tigers and Wolverines.
When it’s all said and done, Webb said that he’s sticking with his LSU prediction, but he his crystal ball is at a confidence level of five rather than seven. Of course, with Ed Warinner really coming on strong and Dellinger being from the state, there’s sure to be some pull for the Wolverines.
And since Dellinger’s little brother, who is in the class of 2023, was recently offered by Michigan football, it’s probably one reason why the staff wants that relationship to be a good one, regardless of where Garrett ends up.
If, however, he does choose LSU, it looks like Michigan will be looking for another offensive tackle and it could be three-star Thomas Cole, a 6-foot-7 prospect out of California. Cole is ranked 376th in the 2021 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, while Dellinger ranks 76th overall. Michigan also has a recent commitment from Tristan Bounds, who is close to 6-foot-8 and offers enormous potential, just as Cole does.
6-foot-7 tackles don’t grow on trees and with Warinner’s ability to develop talent, Cole would be well worth taking and if Dellinger doesn’t wind up committing, it’s very possible it happens.
