4-star DT George Rooks

One of the biggest needs for Michigan football entering the 2021 recruiting cycle was defensive tackle. The Wolverines have been pushing with a number of different prospects and one that they have resonated with is New Jersey defensive tackle George Rooks.

Rooks is ranked 202nd nationally in the 247 composite rankings and he’s the No. 14 defensive tackle. There is some talk that he could be a five-technique too, however, he’s already 6-foot-4, 260 pounds, so he will surely be big enough to play inside if U-M wants him there, a la Carlo Kemp.

Rooks has two expert predictions from 247 sports, crystal balling him to Michigan. On Rivals, all three FutureCast picks, including one from EJ Holland have him going to U-M too. His father did play for Syracuse and that’s the team to watch in this battle. Rutgers is fighting hard to keep him too, however Nua has also done a great job here and appears close to landing another key target.

Rooks also visited Michigan back in November and his sister played basketball for the Wolverines, so he should be familiar enough with the school to pull the trigger on a commitment. His recruitment is harder to get a feel for, but it’d be a surprise if Michigan didn’t come out on top.
