Juwan Howard has been working his magic with five-star Chet Holmgren, No. 1 for the 2021 class and Michigan basketball is a potential destination for him.

Chet Holmgren is about as unassuming as they come. The No. 1 overall player for the 2021 class holds offers from all the high majors, including Michigan basketball, and yet you would never guess it if you see him.

Chet is a 7-footer and he is about as skinny as he can be. He looks like a giant McLovin until he steps out onto the court. When he’s got a basketball in his hands, Chet Holmgren can’t be stopped.

This guy can hit from anywhere on the court, dunk on opposing giants, and block a shot from a mile away.

Heres Holmgren’s evaluation from ESPN ($):

"Strengths:Chet is a long skilled versatile wing player. He has a good handle for his size and is pretty quick with the ball. He can really shoot it when he gets going. Has shown the ability to shoot off the catch or off the dribble for a pull up. Likes to drive the ball hard when bigger post players are guarding him. He is an active kid around the basketball and can get creative when finishing at the rim. Has an attacking mindset even at his age.Weaknesses:First thing you notice about Chet is his slight skinny frame. After that you notice how skilled he is but he will definitely have to grow into that body. Must make it a priority to eat right and gain weight the correct way. He is so young his decision making is not always there yet and can force some bad shots at times. He is aggressive but will have to make that into being more efficient down the road.Bottom Line:Chet has potential written all over him. A skinny 6-8 knock down shooter who plays hard and has a good handle is what you have right now. In a year or two he could be a force scoring in the paint or outside the three. Has the look of a high major recruit."

With someone of his caliber, it’s easy to jump on the ‘G League’ train. After all, you can go to college for free or get paid half a million while preparing for an even bigger contract at the next level.

It’s a gamble, surely. Take the G League route and risk washing out with $500,000 in the bank. Take the college route and if you don’t make it you hope that your scholarship is honored long enough to get a degree.

There’s a choice to be made and the one that makes the most sense is to take the money and pray for the best. But as Sam Webb from 247 sports reported, the word is Chet’s dad wants him to go to college.

If college is in his future, Michigan is in the mix and a real possibility for 2021.

Just in case you didn’t think Chet was the real deal, check out his 247 sports evaluation:

"Extremely unique player who is unlike almost any American prospect in recent years. Good size, long arms and plus athleticism but very narrow frame. Extremely physically immature and may take a while to put on strength due to narrow shoulders/base. Despite lack of strength, very tough kid with impressive mental makeup. Has range to perimeter with jumper, good body control and high feel. Outstanding rim protector and rebounder. Level 10 motor. Hard to be overly critical outside of lack of strength/narrow frame. Projects as lottery pick."

And to those doubting his interest in the Wolverines, Chet had some interesting things to say about UM in an interview with 247 sports Evan Daniels.

“Michigan is picking up a lot right now,” Chet said when asked who’s prioritizes him. “I’m about to do a second Zoom call with them later this week”
