Michigan Basketball: 3 prospects to keep an eye on for 2021
Will Tschetter
(Virtually) Heading out west to Stewartville, Minnesota, Juwan has discovered a gem in big man Will Tschetter. The 6-foot-8 power forward checks all the boxes for the Michigan basketball staff.
-Excellent footwork
-Powerful dunks
-Ability to create his own shot
-Strong defensive presence
-Superior range
Take one look at his highlight reel, and you’ll understand why the staff is really excited about this kid based on what he can do on the court.
Averaging 34.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for Stewartville High School should get you a look from most high major programs across the country, but a lack of AAU film has had an impact on Will’s recruiting. That shouldn’t last long with the addition of Michigan to the list of schools that have prioritized the rising star.
Also, when you consider what Will is dealing with on the court in terms of opposing defensive strategy, it’s a miracle he’s averaging what he’s is, and that will eventually play into the recruiting with other big-name offers.
“At the beginning of my sophomore year it was just one person guarding me,” Will told GopherIllustrated. “Towards the end of last season there was an occasional double time. To start the year this year it was a consistent double team, and then by the end of the year I was facing a triple team fairly consistently.”
Tschetter hasn’t received a ranking from 247 sports, but Rivals has the big man at 26th at his position and 144th nationally with three stars.
No one has placed crystal balls for Will, but Rivals includes a FanFutureCast, which has him landing at in-state Minnesota. That might not be the case as Tschetter has said he’s willing to venture elsewhere.
“I feel like it’s kind of the big thing with Minnesota kids where everyone obviously wants them to stay at the hometown school, but I’m open to leaving the state, for sure,” Will told The Wolverine. “I really like Michigan’s coaching staff. It’s a bunch of great basketball minds and good people. I like everything they have to offer. They have great academics, great facilities, good academic support. Just kind of the whole thing is pretty attractive when you look at it.”
