Michigan football is losing momentum with four-star tight end Thomas Fidone. More on that and other recruiting tidbits for the Wolverines.

Michigan football has been recruiting four-star tight end Thomas Fidone pretty hard and it’s easy to see why. He’s a dynamic playmaker and he’d be a perfect fit in the kind of offense Josh Gattis wants to build for the Wolverines.

Fidone is ranked 91st overall in the 2021 rankings according to the 247 sports composite and in the 247 specific rankings, he’s even higher at 39th overall. In both rankings, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound matchup nightmare is the No. 1 or No. 2 tight end.

The problem is that no matter hard Michigan football tries to recruit him, Fidone seems like he’s headed to Nebraska. That’s what his crystal ball projections from 247 sports say as 93 percent of his predictions have him going to the Big Red.

EJ Holland of Rivals ($) also said, “this is the least confident” he has felt about Fidone and U-M, even though the Wolverines are still trying to push and who knows, if they can get a visit, it could change things, otherwise, Michigan will have to settle for Louis Hansen, a four-star commit.

Outside of Donovan Edwards, Fidone was pretty much it in terms of offensive skill guys in the top 100, which makes landing guys like Edwards and wide receiver Christian Dixon even more important.

New targets for Michigan football at corner, safety

Dyson McCutcheon is a new name to start tracking at cornerback for the Wolverines. He’s a three-star recruit in the 2021 class, but his dad is a former NFL corner and Holland reported that Dyson and his father held a video conference ($) with Mike Zordich, U-M corner’s coach Friday.

McCutcheon is rated No. 645 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he has two crystal ball projections to Washington right now, but the Wolverines are clearly expanding their target list at corner and McCutcheon is a name to watch.

Another player to follow in the defensive backfield is 2021 four-star recruit Titus Mokiao-Atimalala. Both 247 sports ($) and Rivals ($) have reported Michigan football sees Mokiao-Atimalala as a guy who can play receiver and safety and with other safety targets like Ryan Barnes and Donovan McMillon going in other directions, it’s definitely an option.

Notre Dame leads with the crystal balls in that race, but Michigan landed Roman Wilson in Hawaii the last cycle and maybe the Wolverines can do it again.
