One of Michigan football’s top targets at wide receiver, Xavier Worthy will decide later this month. More on his recruitment and others at wideout for 2021.

It doesn’t take too long to fall in love with the talents of 2021 Michigan football target Xavier Worthy, who is one of the most dynamic wide receivers in this recruiting class.

Last month, it seemed like Michigan football was in a pretty strong position with Worthy, who is ranked 209th according to the 247 sports composite rankings and 141st in the 247 sports specific rankings. Rivals listed Worthy as a three-star recruit too, but if you watch his highlights, you will see instantly why the Wolverines want him so badly.

And Wolverines expert EJ Holland actually predicted that Worthy would wind up with Michigan football, but now, as Worthy announced a commitment date of June 27 Wednesday, Holland isn’t so sure and he’s not alone.

First, here’s what Holland wrote about Worthy:

"“I posted an update on him earlier today. Since then, I have gone ahead and flipped my pick from Michigan to Oregon. The Ducks present an opportunity for him to stay out West and play in an open offense.”"

Unfortunately, for Michigan football fans, three other experts from 247 sports, Brandon Huffman, Steve Wiltfong and Greg Biggins also put in crystal ball picks for Oregon Wednesday, meaning the Ducks are officially trending.

Things can certainly change, but since Michigan wasn’t able to get a visit, it makes sense. I’d expect the Wolverines to keep fighting but on June 27, don’t expect to see Worthy pick a U-M hat.

Other Michigan targets at wide receiver

While things don’t look great with Worthy, Michigan football still appears to be the leader with four-star wideout Christian Dixon a top-200 receiver from Santa Ana, California. Dixon hasn’t visited Michigan yet, which is always a concern, however, just about every pick from 247 sports and Rivals have him going to Michigan. Holland reported Dixon is tired of the Michigan talk, but that doesn’t mean he won’t commit.

Dixon would be a huge get for the Wolverines, especially if they miss on Worthy. That would also explain why Michigan is still pushing for Notre Dame commit Lorenzo Styles Jr., a player Holland reported U-M still contacts frequently.

We covered his recruitment earlier and as with Worthy and others, especially in this class, it makes sense to keep pushing, even after a commitment.
