Michigan football is down to a few key targets at wide receiver in the 2021 class and one of those is 4-star Xavier Worthy, who has been trending with U-M.

At the wide receiver position alone, Michigan football has extended 34 offers during the 2021 recruiting cycle. One of those went to four-star Xavier Worthy and that’s one name that Wolverine fans should keep an eye on.

Worthy is ranked 317th nationally according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s also 56th in the nation among wideouts and 28th in the state of California. However, the Fresno prospect is dynamic and at 6-foot-1, he would be a perfect fit for Josh Gattis’ offensive system.

Not only is he a dangerous weapon as a receiver, but he’s also a very skilled returner. Basically, he’s just dangerous with the ball in his hands and after the catch, he’s tough to bring down, which makes him an ideal fit for the speed-in-space concept of offensive football.

Worthy is shown numerous times in his highlights, catching a short pass and turning it into an explosive play. That’s what Michigan football wants its receivers to do and least season, we started to see that more, especially with guys like Giles Jackson.

I bring up Jackson, because he’s actually played a role in his recruitment. He came to the Wolverines as a recruit out of California and the two have built a close relationship. Here’s what Worthy told the Michigan Insider ($) about Jackson:

"“Yeah, I started building a pretty good relationship with Giles. “(He’s talked to me about Michigan) a little bit. He said it’s a very good school and I will most likely get the opportunity to play my true freshman year.”"

Not only did Worthy talk about his connection with Jackson, but he also said he was hearing every day from the Wolverines, who need a receiver like Worthy especially if they can’t flip Lorenzo Styles Jr. from Notre Dame.

Even if they do flip Styles Jr., the Wolverines should keep pushing for Worthy who can be a returner, play in the outside and even outside. Michigan football does own the only crystal ball put in for Worthy right now and just recently, Jackson tweeted out what Matt Dudek used to when the Wolverines would about to get some good news, so maybe that was referring to Worthy.

If so, that’d be exciting and it would also fill a huge need for the 2021 recruiting class.
