Impact-level defenders all over the place

On the defensive side of the ball, it’s easy to look at all the guys lost to the NFL draft and think that Michigan won’t be as good defensively either.

And while Michigan football would be better off with Josh Uche back as an edge rusher, there are still some really solid pieces to work with and the best part is that there are impact players on all three levels of the defense.

Starting with the defensive line, Michigan will have two stout defensive ends in Aidan Hutchinson and Kwity Paye. Both will be NFL draft picks and each can pressure the quarterback, as well as play the run. If Chris Hinton and/or Mazi Smith break out this season, the D-line could be scary good.

Cam McGrone is the next great Michigan linebacker and just like Devin Bush, he can do it all. He’s a great blitzer, he finds the ball and can hold his own in coverage, as well as against the run. He may not be a first-rounder like Bush, but I think McGrone goes early second round in 2021.

In his first full season as a starter, McGrone will dominate. The same can be said for former five-star recruit Daxton Hill in the secondary at safety. Hill and Brad Hawkins will be among the best safety duos in the country. Ambry Thomas and Vincent Gray also provide the Wolverines with two solid starting corners and truly, there is NFL talent across the board.

Don Brown’s defense might not be any better against Ohio State, but it’s reasonable to expect the same kind of numbers against everyone else and some truly dominant performances.
