Michigan Football: Tristan Bounds commits; U-M out for Donovan McMillon
Michigan football added a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Tristan Bounds Monday. Here’s what it means, plus more from the recruiting trail.
It was a good news/bad news sort of day for Michigan football on the recruiting trail. While it was mostly a good day, especially considering the Wolverines added a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Tristan Bounds, there was disappointment, mixed in with excitement.
It was always going to be a busy day with some top targets of Michigan football expected to announce their top lists. Yet, in the morning, expert picks, projecting Bounds to U-M flooded in and by the afternoon, Bounds was committed, announcing on Twitter.
Bounds might just be a three-star in the 247 sports composite rankings and No. 669 overall, but he has a lot of natural gifts, including a 6-foot-7 frame. He’s pretty close to having a college body already and it will be fun to see what Ed Warriner can do with his development.
The addition of Bounds also helps the Wolverines shore up the tackle sport for 2021, as Bounds is the second commitment at the position along with Giovanni El-Hadi, a top-100 recruit.
Michigan will still keep pushing for Garrett Dellinger, a high-ranking four-star prospect from in the state, but LSU is the heavy favorite there, controlling all of his crystal ball projections.
If Dellinger wanted to commit, the Wolverines would most definitely find room, but if he doesn’t, Bounds gives them another prospect well worth developing for down the road. Early in his career, he could be a swing tackle and he could even move inside.
Which top lists Michigan made and the one it didn’t
Monday was really about two key targets for the Wolverines, one on each side of the ball. Xavier Worthy is a four-star receiver that Michigan loves and he’s ranked 209th overall. He has no crystal ball projections at this time and he included U-M in his top six with Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Auburn and Georgia.

Worthy is one of the most dynamic playmakers in this class and he would be a perfect fit at Michigan under Josh Gattis. Oregon is the top West Coast team in the mix and it would probably help the Wolverines a lot if Worthy is able to eventually take a visit before he decides.
Michigan also needs to add a defensive back or two, ideally, another safety and corner. Well, four-star cornerback target Omarion Cooper included the Wolverines in his top six. He’s ranked No. 271 overall and is the No. 18 cornerback. The other finalists are Texas, Penn State, Florida State, South Carolina and Louisville.

Cooper has one prediction on 247 sports sending him to Florida State, but you’d think Michigan would have as good a shot as anyone. And they will want to make that count cause top safety recruit, Donovan McMillon, did not include the Wolverines in his top five Monday.
Michigan may need to look elsewhere at safety, but at least the Wolverines already have three-star Rod Moore among their 17 commitments.
