player. 485. . . . Eric Turner. 7

Before Antoine Joubert was able to burst onto the scene as one of Michigan basketball’s best point guards, there was Eric Turner, who played at in-state Flint Central during his high school days. While at Flint Central, Turner averaged 20.9 points and 8.9 assists on his way to being crowned Mr. Basketball and being named to the McDonald’s All-American Team.

Once he arrived on campus, the three-year starter never left his seat at PG until he departed for the NBA as a junior.

During his three seasons, Eric averaged five assists per game which is tied for fourth all-time and, during the 1982-83 season, Turner averaged 5.93 assists, which is tied for 8th all-time. Never truly experiencing success in the maize and blue uniform in his first two seasons, by the third, the team was rolling and finished with a 24-9 (11-7 adjusted conference record), which included a win over No. 7 Illinois and an NIT Championship.

Turner was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Pistons, but like Joubert, Eric’s career never took off. He played in the CBA until 1989.
