The Game (L)

I wish there was something that was telling me Michigan football can beat Ohio State. But in the past five years, we have seen no evidence that it’s going to happen.

You can’t say that the Wolverines haven’t gotten closer to Ohio State since Harbaugh arrived. The Game was highly competitive in 2016 and 2017. Even in 2018 and 2019, the game was competitive into the third quarter, when Ohio State finally pulled away.

The big-time quarterback seems to be what the Wolverines are missing. McCaffrey and Milton are both talented prospects with upside and tons of potential. But neither is going to be as good as Justin Fields, who just might win the Heisman trophy in 2020.

Having Fields and a team loaded with first-round NFL talent, will be too much for Michigan to overcome, particularly at the Horseshoe.  I do believe Michigan will acquit itself well, meaning it’s not going to be 60-30 or something like that. However, this isn’t horseshoes and at some point, you have to do better than close.

All in all, I see 10-2 as an accurate portrayal of this team, although eight or nine wins, with this schedule, is also a definite possibility. Then again, 11 could be too.
